Abstract

This lecture with workshop elements addresses the topic of special educational needs and investigates some of the issues involved for the classroom teacher. It aims at helping the participants gain an overview of the area of SEN and their own teaching. Types of SEN and respective strategies are being considered, as well as the necessity of finding ways and procedures for integrating children with SEN in the mainstream teaching/learning process. More specifically, there is a focus on learners with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and learners with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). Working with gifted and talented learners is also given due attention. There are suggestions for teaching strategies and classroom activities for all above mentioned SEN.
