Abstract

The text is based on various sources ranging from the chronics to some old legends about the battle which have survived in the South western Bulgarian lands. On the ba
sis of these sources and after a critical analysis of historical literature the author concludes that the
battle has “legalized” the Serbian dominance over Macedonia and has opened the gates for further Serb ian expansion in Southern, East southern and Western direction.
Regarding the Serbian-Bulgarian border it only has been slightly chan ged. Probably the district of Mraka has fallen in Serbian hands for a while.
In this case the border has been set from Chemernik along the valley of Treklyanska river crossing the Mrakata district, following the line Peshtera and Monastery St. Nikola of Orehovo (in Serbian hands) – Zhablyan – Izvor – Zhitusha – Zhedna – Kondofrey, and then from Vladimir
and Dolna Dikanya, following the upper course of river Arkata reaching the Verila mountain.
