Policy

  The Scholar Electronic Repository of the New Bulgarian University (SER of NBU) is an Open Access long-term, institutional electronic repository for faculty and doctoral students of NBU.

The SER of NBU adheres to the definition of Open Access of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI):

"free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles,
crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited."

Monographs, articles, textbooks, teaching materials, datasets, software, artistic works, such as sheet music, video and sound recordings, photographs, etc. can be deposited open access in the SER of NBU.

Periodical, published by individual departments of the NBU are available open access in full text on a separate NBU Academic Journals Portal.

The metadata for the deposited documents are freely available through the OAI-PMH protocol (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting).

Rules for depositing in the Scholar Electronic Repository of the New Bulgarian University

1. Purpose of the Scholar Electronic Repository of the New Bulgarian University
1.1. The Scholar Electronic Repository of the New Bulgarian University (SER of NBU) is an institutional open access electronic repository that provides long-term storage of electronic documents and assists in the dissemination of scientific results on the Internet.
2. Who can deposit
2.1. Faculty (full-time and part-time) and doctoral students of NBU can deposit in the SER of NBU.
2.2. Only the authors can deposit in the SER of NBU if they meet the condition in 2.1.
2.3. In the case of co-authorship, it is necessary for at least one of the authors to meet the condition under item 2.1.
3. What is deposited
3.1. Types of documents:
3.1.1. Published documents by any means (print or electronic). In this case one of the following conditions must be met:
a) The submitting author is the copyright holder of the document.
b) If the copyright belongs to a publisher or another organization, the author must have permission to deposit the document.
c) If the document is published by the NBU Publishing House, then the circulation must have been exhausted (for books) or three years have passed since its publication (for collections of articles or periodicals).
3.1.2.Unpublished papers. In this case, the author who deposits an unpublished paper bears the responsibility for compliance with the industry ethical norms and guarantees the scientific or artistic quality of the content.
3.2. The document types are listed in the user interface of the SER of NBU.
4. Liability
4.1. By depositing, the depositor agrees to the terms and conditions of the "Scholar Electronic Repository of the New Bulgarian University" and is responsible for the content of the deposited document.
