The report presents a survey of the assumptions about human nature of managers in Bulgarian organizations, based on the concept of Theory X and Y introduced by D. McGregor. The survey covers a sample of 522 middle managers from ten different organizations and is conducted during 41 trainings for development of management skills using a self-assessment scale. A local norms based on the sample are presented. The presence of tendencies is examined comparing the assessments of different managers from one and the same and different organizations during the 10 years period. The analysis is focused on possible differences in the assumptions in relation to sex, management experience or type of the business. The possible influence of assumptions on the managers’ behavior is discussed.
