Abstract

This is a series of materials on foreign language teaching to children at primary school age. The issues addressed vary from general characteristics and principles of teaching foreign languages to children to developing children's language and thinking skills. These are systematized under the following headings: 1) Foreign language teaching (FLT) to young learners (YLs) - general characteristics; 2) FLT to YLs - main principles; 3) Developing listening skills with children; 4) Developing speaking skills with children; 5) Developing reading skills with children; 6) Developing initial literacy with children; 7) Developing writing skills with children; 8) Developing habits of effective and creative thinking in young learners.
