Abstract
The study is focused on the presence of Basic Color Terms in the Old Testament on contrastive material (Hebrew – Indo-European Languages). The analysis uses the instruments of Berlin-Kay (historical development of color terminology), Wikovski-Brown (Macrolight and Macrodark colors) and E.Rosch (Prototype Theory) Theories. The author reveals two kinds of semantisations of the basic color terms – depending on lexical semantic features of the Hebrew root and context-dependant. The results are commented in the paradigm of linguistic relativity; cases of interlinguistic symmetry, asymmetry and dissymmetry are described.
