Abstract

This paper proposes a problem-based approach to developing translation skills within a unified constructivist paradigm. In an attempt to redefine the interrelatedness between translation competence and foreign language competence, a reconciliation is sought between holistic and reductionist theoretical orientation and instruction methods. The proposed pedagogical framework can be viewed both as a step toward modernizing language education and a viable pathway to empowering students as active participants in their learning experience and career development.
