Abstract

The paper explores the semiotics of colors, focusing on their role as a communicative system and their symbolic meanings. It examines the interface between verbal and visual color languages, cognitive limitations, and methodologies for analyzing color symbolism. While basic color terms (BCTs) like red, blue, and green are studied linguistically, their symbolic meanings (e.g., love, health, anger) are often overlooked. The idea of subconscious knowledge of prototypes and their cultural meanings is proposed.
