Abstract

Contemporary apparel patternmaking can be divided into two main essential parts. The first one contains the data measurements from different points of the human body, while the second one – the technique of creating basic flat patterns, called system for apparel patternmaking. Methods, used and applied for body measurement, vary for each system. The aim of this article is to review the study and the measurement of the human body and its proportions, on which base and principles the different theories for apparel construction and grading are built.
