Abstract
The purpose of the present report is to outline the results of my research on the types of lighting and light sources for hotels and hotel complexes, as well as the methods for their design during the last decades. Specific accent of the research is the use of natural light and its psychological effect on the inhabitants of hotels and alike buildings. Lighting design is fundamental for the success of any building, especially hotels. Light is as much a building material as the structure of which the building is made. This is because light, when reflected from a structure’s surfaces and edges, provides the information upon which we act. Good lighting design in a hotel building strengthens its function and message to the clients. Important element of the lighting design of hotel buildings is the architecture of the building, its interrelationship with the structural form, and its effect on the human. The report outlines the types of artificial sources of light, matching different premises in a hotel building as well as their specific positioning from perspective of their functions. The report also discusses the ecological aspects of the hotel lighting, the problems arising out of the use of a material amount of electricity and renewable energy and lighting sources.
