Abstract

The purpose of the current article is to explore the phraseological units, excerpted from several textbooks in New Greek. The issue with the phraseological units and their place in the learning of the New Greek language is among the most widely discussed ones during the last decades. The majority of the researchers share the opinion that the phraseological units reflect the most specific characteristics of the mentality of a nation. This has been affirmed by our own observations on the frequency of the phraseological units during the research of textbooks and educational sets. This is why the inclusion of the phraseological units, which belong to the most active means of expression in the communication between the native speakers, would help to increase the effectiveness of the communicative approach in the foreign language teaching.
