Abstract

The use of modern information and communication technologies (ICT) in education has brought about significant changes in the teaching and learning of foreign languages. New ICT-related teaching and learning strategies have emerged, the change affecting many traditional aspects of the educational process, such as the use of metalanguage, which facilitates the acquisition of the new tongue. This paper tries to examine the metalanguage used in the android and iOS applications for English language learning. The conclusions drawn on the basis of the research data collected clearly demonstrate that the metalanguage used in these modern applications is of new type and more in tune with the current communicatively-oriented tendencies of teaching and learning foreign languages than with the old educational methodolgy.
